Apparently what I wrote suggested that I think otherwise
to both you and Peter, so let me emphasize:
I never said otherwise.
I completely agree.
The entities were just introduced to refer to character
codes in the discussion of AbiWord behavior. (They were
just a way to reliably refer to these characters in a plain
text email.) My apologies for not having been clearer.

Right. Try the short import/export process outlined in my
previous note, in which I recommend export like the behavior
of Word.
I.e., substitute rough ASCII equivalents.
(However I did suggest that Word's choices, while
acceptible, were not the most standard ASCII
equivalents.)
So I am asking to export

‘ as '
— as ---
– as -
≥ as >=
etc.
