There are one or two messages per day on abiword-user.
That hasn't been "a lot of somebody's bandwidth" since
1980.

If your goal is to be able to post messages but not
recieve them, unsubscribe now and then re-subscribe
when you have a question to ask. Problem solved. If
that's still too much work for you, file a bug, visit
the IRC channel, post something in the wiki, etc. The
mailing list is not the only way to get your questions
answered.
