Not many of us (at least not myself) are terribly experienced with 
writing Japanese.  I was under the impression an input editor or palette 
is used in some way when entereing Japanese text.  Could you let us know 
what platform (Windows, Mac, Linux GTK+, Linux GNOME) you are using, and 
what version?
