abiword-setup-2.4.0 should work without a network connection.  However, 
the Equation Editor in the tools plugins and the GLIB-based 
import/export plugins require a network connection to download those files.
You did choose correctly - the most recent versions in the dependencies 
folder are required for 2.4.  libxml2-2.4.12-bin.zip was used for the 
2.2 series.  (From memory, you need libxml2, glib, libiconv/gettext for 
these plugins, as well as libgsf for the import/export ones and 
libmathview for the equation editor.  If you lack the proper 
dependencies, you will probably get a warning on startup saying that a 
shared library could not be found.)
A bug has been filed to provide an offline installation method - feel 
free to create a bugzilla account and add yourself as a cc to bug 9619 -
