The reason the libgnomeprint dependency was added was because it allows 
for much more accurate and reliable printing.  Without it, the AbiWord 
developers also had to maintain a custom PostScript output routine, 
which was problematic.  Hence why it's being phased out - libgnomeprint 
also gives us PDF output with little additional code.  Don't worry, the 
AbiWord developers understand that part of the appeal of AbiWord is its 
small footprint and lightweight dependencies.
I personally would double-check and make sure those icon themes are 
strictly necessary - I haven't much experience compiling Abi on anything 
but a GNOME workstation and Windows, but from what I've heard, only the 
gnomeprint (and therefore gnomecanvas) are required (and that is an 
extremely small bit of GNOME that would do well to become 
cross-environment, at least based on its user experience).
