Performance issues on mac OS X 10.3

Hi, I've downloaded the Mac OS X package of AbiWord on
http://www.abisource.com/download/. It works just fine, however it is
somehow slow and unresponsive. Is it normal? Typed characters appear a short
while after they've been typed (is i type very fast during 10 seconds, i can
stop and look at the characters still appearing on screen for about 2 to 6
seconds), when resizing the window it takes really a while to react, just
successing into grabbing a table's edge to resize it was almost some kind of
challenge (cursors don't seem to show up correctly, by the way). My document
was only 1-2 lines long - on a 1 ghz machine. Is it normal in AbiWord? Is
there something that can be done? It's the only thing preventing me from
using AbiWord (i believe my computer is just fine other word processing
software have good performances).
