    Actually, it can be made to handle this through an extension that is
    actually beneficial for translators. Nautilus does this, and I plan on
    having the next version of Abi handle it too.

    "Free[as is beer]"
    "Free[as in speech]"

    Everything between the brackets gets parsed out by a function, and the
    translator can now translate the two strings into their equivalents
    (without the []). This provides useful contextual information for
    strings, especially where there might be duplicates. It also helps for
    cases like "%d Pages" which might refer to pages in a document, pages
    cached in memory, how often your beeper # had been called, ...
